Mark midcentury-style Bosco sofa and armchair range at John Lewis

Bosco1

Quality rarely comes cheap, which is perhaps why the Mark midcentury-style Bosco sofa and armchair range at John Lewis isn't as cheap as we would like it.

The range is made in the UK, with exposed frames made from solid European oak, as well as featuring serpentine springs and foam and feather fillings for the cushions, the whole thing covered in a viscose and linen cloth in charcoal. Love the shape too, that low profile, buttoned back and exposed wood taking inspiration from the mid-1950s to early '60s.

There's a large sofa, medium sofa and 'snuggled', which in effect is a large armchair. You can see an image of that over the page. Pricing is from £1,600.

Otium Sofa by La Palma

Otium
I’ll be the first to admit that the Otium Sofa by La Palma does not look the most cosy but what it lacks in obvious comfort, it makes up for with its sleek appearance.

Designed by Mario Ruiz, it is made from walnut on a stainless steel base. It has principally been designed for commercial use such as waiting rooms and reception areas, where you perhaps don’t want people to get too comfortable. Two cushions designed for the sofa are available separately.

It costs £2,750 from Made in Design.

Waldorf Sofa

Waldorf_m
The Waldorf Sofa is part of Heal’s classic designs range.

The shape of the sofa takes its inspiration from designs of the 1930s, with its semi-circular ends and cutaway arm details. The sofa is available in a range of fabrics, so if the floral pattern pictured here isn’t to your taste then they may have something more to your liking in-store.

It is available exclusively to Heal’s and is currently in the sale with a starting price of £1,596 reduced from £1,995.
