eBay watch: 1970s JVC Videosphere television

Jvc

It is something we have featured before, but this particular 1970s JVC Videosphere television is very cheap right now, so well worth as look.

An iconic design from 1970 and one that was inspired by the era of space exploration and the 2001: A Space Odyssey movie, but all accounts. Good got use on its stand, also good to use with the chain, hanging on a wall. Downside? You'll need to get it converted to use it in the modern digital world, unless you just want it for decoration.

It is described as being in 'original unrestored condition', generally being in 'very good above' condition, although there is 'one major crack' on the square base and the head of the antenna is missing, although it still works. So not perfect, but pretty good – and just £2.20 right now.

eBay watch: Patrice Dupont-designed Philips 303 UFO portable record player with a low starting price

Ufo

I know this is something we have featured before, but I can't resist flagging up this Patrice Dupont-designed Philips 303 UFO portable record player, because the starting price is so low.

All too often, this icon of the 1970s space age era comes with a substantial 'Buy It Now' price, but this example can find its own price. As auctions always should. This UFO has the red cover and has apparently been checked by a 'specialist', with 'quite expensive, Germanium Transistors' replaced, so it's good to go for many more years. it also has a new battery compartment (works with battery or mains) and plays 'like a new one'.

A few minor usage marks, says the seller, but nothing more. Which is why it's worth talking about. Bidding stands at £1 right now.

eBay watch: 1970s Artemide Triedro clamp light by Joe Colombo

Joe

Interesting lamp, which, to our knowledge, went out of production sometime in the 1970s. Making this Artemide Triedro clamp light by Joe Colombo something of a rarity.

It was actually designed in 1970 and we believe, made by Stilnovo in Italy, although the seller is saying Artemide. That might be a mistake though, you might want to check. Anyway, it's a versatile light, using a clamp to fit pretty much anywhere – even on a stand if you want a more traditional light fitting. The 'shade' is made of sheet metal, the clamp tubular steel and the bulb, as you expect, sitting in the middle directing the light.

We've seen these listed for big money in the past, so at £75 (right now), this might be something of a bargain. Although that's for you to decide.

eBay watch: 1970s extra large Guzzini-style pendant lights

Guz

Yes, I know we did something similar yesterday and we do try to vary things when possible, but I've just spotted these 1970s extra large Guzzini-style pendant lights online, which are absolutely stunning.

According to the seller, this orange and white light fitting doesn't have a maker's label, but it does have that Guzzini 'look', as well as being a light fitting that screams the late '60s and 1970s. How big? 36cm wide and 30cm high, with 66cm of new wiring offered with it – yes, it's been rewired and is ready to be fitted.

Condition is 'very good / excellent' with 'just a few light marks' down to age. Not the cheapest light fitting at £149.99 on a 'buy it now', but ust try finding something on the high street with similar impact for a cheaper price.

1970s-style Detraform Model 500 space age cordless phone

Detra1

A great design that's inspired by the past, but has everything the modern home telephone needs today – the Detraform Model 500 cordless telephone.

The work of Kiwi and Pim for Detraform, it's a design that might pass for a Joe Colombo piece, certainly fitting into a 1960s or '70s-inspired home with ease. The cordless DECT phone is made of anodised aluminium and polycarbonate, with a digital display that merges nicely into the design, sat just above the integrated keypad of the phone, which stands around 21cm tall.

1970s Verner Panton 123 Lounge Chairs reissued by VerPan

Pan1

Originally dating back to 1973, two versions of the Verner Panton 123 Lounge Chairs have been reissued.

It's been off the reissue market since 1989 (we featured an eBay find of one some time back), but is now back in both the standard (pictured over the page) and the De Luxe above. The difference is obviously the finish, with both of these space age classics offering a choice of fabric or leather upper and brushed aluminium bases. The De Luxe has that buttoned finish, as you can see.

Prices based on finish, but start at £800. A dining chair version is alas available with a slightly different shape from £595.
