eBay watch: 1970s Philips 22GF113 Playsound portable record player

Philips

As the recent Record Store Day showed, there's still a demand for vinyl, which also means a demand for players. Especially when they look as good as this Philips 22GF113 Playsound portable record player.

Dating back to the 1970s (you probably guessed that bit), it's a classic portable record player, offering battery or mains playback, three speeds (33, 45 or 78) and able to fold up as a case with integrated handle or fold out to playback your slabs of plastic.

The one here is described as being in 'very good above-average condition', with a rare green lid contrasting the white body. £34.99 is the current top bid.

eBay watch: Sharp 5P-12G 1970s space age television

Sharp

How useful it is, I don't know (unless you slip in a digibox in some way), but just as an interesting piece of home decor, this Sharp 5P-12G television is something of a winner.

It's a design I've never seen before, although it's not a million miles from the JVC Videosphere 'space helmet' TV. Made in Japan and described as being in 'near mint' condition by the seller, the TV oozes 70s space age cool and has a 'straight', working antenna. A bonus if you can still get analogue TV in your area.

Like I said earlier, I don't know if these things can be converted to digital via a box. If not, it's just an eye-catching design. But at just £1 on eBay right now (plus postage), that might be enough to justify the price.

eBay watch: Electrohome space age audio system

Electrohome

I can't say I've ever heard of the Electrohome space age audio system, but I like its wonderful space age looks.

Those looks are from a brushed aluminium base and stand, along with a tinted dome that holds the record player and an AM/FM radio. That's before we get to the speakers, which are pretty stylish in their own right.

Check the images on the site as there's obvious wear through age. But if you like it, you can bid now starting at $199.50 (£129.53).

eBay watch: Robin Day space age 4-4000 armchair for Hille in brown and cream

Hille

We have featured one of these previously, but I'm flagging up this Robin Day 4-4000 armchair for Hille because of its unusual colour scheme and the cheap price.

The chair was made by Hille in the 1970s as part of a 'Living Theme' collection, which was pitched at a younger crowd and sold in cool places like Habitat. As you can, it's very much of its era.

Usually they're in cream (we have one in this colour), but the model on eBay is an unusual brown with contrast cord cushions (I think these are likely to be original too). An underrated space age gem and right now available for £99.

Clementine 1970s table lights

Clem

These are vintage items, but interestingly, the Clementine table lights available at the Modern Warehouse still come with their original boxes.

Dating back to the 1970s and deriving from Denmark, the lights were presumably a fun rather than high-end design – which it still is today. An alien-like shape that offers up some space age-style mood lighting for your living room.

Not too expensive either – just £40 each.
