Hope and Greenwood homewares

Hope and greenwood

We're obviously massive fans of Hope and Greenwood's retro sweets, but did you know they also sell their own range of homewares?

The homewares range is based around a design is called This Lovely Land which is inspired by traditional British stamps. The bright colours makes it a great take on the current heritage trend and a perfect fit with the distinctive Hope and Greenwood packing. The design is used across several items, such as the cotton apron and the tea cosy pictured as well as tea towels and oven gloves.

Prices start at £10 for the tea towels. Perfect for using to wash up after you've indulged in some of their confectionery!

Royal Mail to introduce FAB: The Genius of Gerry Anderson stamps in early 2011

Thunderbirds

Not just any old retro stamp issue, FAB: The Genius of Gerry Anderson stamps also feature action sequences that work with a flick of the wrist.

Buty let's start with the stamps. The basic set features six landscape stamps featuring all of Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation TV shows from the 1960s – Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Captain Scarlet and Joe 90. Plenty of presentation packs as you would imagine, all with their own added extras. But we like the one with a special pull-out four-page comic, which tells the story of the creation of the Thunderbirds through the illustrations of original TV21 comic artist, Gerry Embleton. Nice.

RSVP the retro way with Imperial Telegrams

Telegram

It's pretty easy to get a message to someone in the 21st century, be it by text, email or Facebook. For a more unusual way to send a greeting, take a look at Imperial Telegrams.

Pay £10 and you can send something like the above. Deliberately designed to represent old telegrams, your message is typed on a 1940s typewriter before the card is decorated with vintage stamps and date stamped. The card is then put in its own special envelope and then in a general envelope and before it is finally dispatched through Royal Mail.

It's certainly an attractive and unusual way to send a special message. One small negative though: you are limited in the number of characters your message can contain. Though maybe in these days of Twitter that's not so much of a problem!

Vintage stamps wallpaper by Catherine Hammerton

Stamps wallpaper

Here's something to appeal to any hidden philatelists: a vintage stamps wallpaper. The wallpaper, made by Catherine Hammerton, is printed with images of vintage stamps from around the world.

Receiving letters is an increasing rarity and this design is a reminder of just how appealing old stamps can be. The muted colours of the photographic print makes for an attractive pattern, whether or not you choose to study the stamps in detail. The paper will set you back quite a bit more than the price of a first class stamp however with a 10 metre roll costing £179.
