Sleeveless Shirt Dress from Topshop Petite

Tanspotdress

When we think of summer dresses it's often florals and bright colours that spring to mind. Just because the weather is brighter, however, doesn't mean more sultry shades are unwelcomed in fashion. Ideally using a very retro shade of brown, this Sleeveless Shirt Dress from Topshop Petite is effortlessly summery.

The sleeveless shirt cut has a subte sixties feel, enhanced by the scalloped Peter Pan collar and button-up front. The lightly cinched waist allows for a sharp silhouette, along with a feminine and flowing skirt shape. The tan brown colour choice is lifted with a white polka dot, while retaining that very sixties shade.

It's available now from Topshop for £32.

Poppy Print Dress by Red Herring

Poppydress

When a mainstream fifties look is the inspiration, it's most often florals that modern designers look to, eschewing the more daring niche looks of rockabilly and pin-up styles from the era. This Poppy Print Dress by Red Herring manages the sweetness of a floral fifties look without being too saccharine.

The use of red and black is a classic combination that adds a tougher edge than many natural floral prints, with the poppies retaining the retro feel. The dress has a simple but effective cut, with capped sleeves and a high waistline allowing a swing style skirt to balance the silhouette.

It's available now from Debenhams for £35.

Fred Perry x Amy Winehouse spring/summer 2011 range

Winehouse1

The first range was launched last October and was generally well received. A good enough response for a second Fred Perry x Amy Winehouse collection, this time the spring/summer 2011 range.

According to Fred Perry, much of the range is apparently 'a tiki re-working' of Fred Perry classics, including the Harrington and the twin-tipped polo shirt. But with the collection now double its original size (32 pieces), there is also now room for bags, shoes and accessories plus a few new clothing designs.

See over the page for lots more images from the range, including a gingham bowling shirt, a Hawaiian print halter neck dress and shirt and scarlet red hot pants alongside accessories including the Amy barrel bag, wide waist straw belts, a printed silk scarf plus suede and leather moccasins in a variety of colours. On the shelves and on the website from Monday 7th March if you want to buy.
