Gold Cassette Watch by EOS New York

Cassette
Cassettes may be a dead format to the uninitiated masses but we still love them and it seems that the good people at EOS New York do too.

This 80s-tastic Gold Cassette Watch is a fittingly fabulous tribute to our beloved tapes. Every tiny detail has been thought of, from the laser-etched details on the watch face (extra Brownie points for the cute retro robot in the bottom corner!), to the moving reels that rotate the tape fully every 60 minutes. The only downside is you can't record all your favourite tunes onto it but we can't have everything.

If you love it as much as we do, it can be yours for £120 from Harvey Nichols. See their website for more details.

eBay watch: Juliette spy briefcase with reel-to-reel recorder

Brief

Fancy setting yourself up as a sixties secret agent? We have just the thing to get you started, this Juliette spy briefcase with reel-to-reel recorder.

It is spy kit from 'back in the day', working via mains or battery (although the former might be a giveaway) and looking like our average briefcase from the outside. But inside is that reel-to-reel tape recorder, which works with a microphone for covert recordings.

A strange thing – and not something you'll see again in a hurry. £6.15 is the current price. Lots more images on the site.

Tape doormat from Third Drawer Down

Cassette_mat_2_medium

Like the rubik's cube beanbag we featured the other day, here's another icon of the 80s that crops up repeatedly on homewares: the humble cassette, this time appearing in this tape doormat from Third Drawer Down

The doormat comes in the shape of simple blank cassette and measures a substantial 60cm across. It's probably a bit more durable than the average tape too, being made from rubber and being fully washable.

The doormat costs AUD74.

Iphone_cassette

Is your iPhone just a little too modern-looking for your tastes? You need the iPhone Cassette Skin and Stand.

Yes, send it kicking and screaming back to the 80s with a rubbery sleeve that turns it into a cassette (well, kind of), while a cassette case-like structure works as a stand for your smartphone.

Ok, it's not really fooling anyone, but it's the kind of novelty that will get your iPhone noticed in a sea of similar devices. Available to pre-order now, it sells for £12.99.
