This is Tomorrow tea towel

This is Tomorrow tea towel

We've already highlighted the reprint of the 1956 This is Tomorrow exhibition catalogue, re-printed to accompany a new display about the exhibition that's on at the Whitechapel gallery. That exhibition is frequently held up as the beginning of British Pop Art. What better way to mark the impact of Pop Art onto everyday life than buying this accompanying This is Tomorrow tea towel

The tea towel reproduces some simple black and white artwork from the original exhibition. Couple that up with the distinctive 'This is Tomorrow' typography and you've got a striking piece of design. Fans of art and cooking will also be pleased to hear that an apron, again reproducing work from the show, is also available.

The tea towel costs £18.

Penny Girl Dolls from Kiss Her by Bianca Hall

Penny doll
The new range from Kiss Her by Bianca Hall takes its inspiration from Penny Girl dolls. Penny dolls were small dolls made entirely from bisque, mass produced in Germany and Japan from the late 1800s up until about 1930. They were called penny dolls because that was what they usually cost in the sweet shops where they were sold.

This range reproduces images of the dolls onto homewares, initially tea towels and tote bags but soon to be available on cushions and prints too. The photographs are reproduced in bright pinks and purples or like a photographic negative giving a more contemporary look to the very old fashioned subject matter.

The price for the bags start at £8.50 while the tea towels cost £12 each.

Lotta Kuhlhorn Eva tea towels

Lotta_EvaGreenTT
More retro-styled designs from the hands of Lotta Kuhlhorn – in this case this colourful and, dare I say it, festive Eva tea towel

The illustration shows a well-stocked kitchen shelf, with everything from foodstuffs like apples, pretzels and sausages to kitchen implements like rolling pins and pots and pans. There's a definite 50s look to the design, not dissimilar to some of Louise Fougstedt's designs from the same decade (now available at New House Textiles). And, with that candy cane that's pictured it does have something of a Christmassy feel and could be worth getting as a stocking filler.

Also available in red, as well as the green version shown above, the tea towel costs $18.

Watermelon tea towel by Vera

 Watermelon
There's no doubt that this Watermelon tea towel by Vera would brighten up a kitchen. 'Vera' stands for the American designer Vera Neumann who was famous for her designs for silks and textiles, starting from the 1940s.

Her designs are being reissued on new materials, first with the Teacup alley wallpaper and now with this range of tea towels. Look closely at the image and you'll see the design features her trademark 'Vera' signature and ladybird. This vibrant watermelon print is just one of several food related designs available – the other designs include images of kebabs and buffets, both being much more stylish than they sound and definitely worth investigating.

The tea towel costs £9.
