Kauniste 60s and 70s inspired tea towels

Kauniste

This charming tea towel design is taken from the first collection of Finnish company Kauniste. 

They've looked back to the 60s and 70s to gain inspiration for their designs, produced with the aim for them to be cherished and kept for the next fifty or so years. This Maatilda depicts a rural scene, while the range also includes a tea towel with a depiction of a well-packed kitchen shelf as well as a vegetable pattern that would fit in well with the Linea salad bowl featured yesterday. Each design is printed in bright colours onto a linen and cotton mix.

Each tea towel costs 17 euros.

Family Favourites tea towel by Charlotte Farmer at New House Textiles

Family favourites

The 1950s Scandinavian designs from New House Textiles are frequently featured on this site. The newest additions to their shop take in a more traditionally British direction with a contemporary collection from Charlotte Farmer which includes this Family Favourites tea towel.

The illustration on the tea towel celebrates the rich biscuit heritage of this country with a selection including a malted milk, a Tunnocks tea cake and a party ring. You're sure to find your personal favourite on there. Take a look at the rest of her collection – which also includes canvas bags – for more biscuits, as well as cakes, cutlery and snow globes.

Olli and Lime Kitchen Collections

We’ve featured Olli and Lime’s nursery products here before (duvet covers, wallpaper and wall art) and I’ve always thought their designs are wasted just kept for children. So I’m pleased to see that they expanded to include two of their designs as Kitchen Collections.

George, a lime and milk chocolate flower-like design (pictured here) and Charlie, a darker brown and mustard circles pattern, are both available on a range of kitchen textiles. You can have your napkins (£25 for four) table runner (£35), tea towels (£15 for a pair) and apron (£25) all in matching fabric.

I’m hoping that more products will follow and I’d like to see their range extended to include grown-up sized bedding, but for now, you can buy their kitchen collection from the Olli and Lime website.

Remember the Pet Sounds wallpaper we featured a little while back? Well, if you liked that pattern but weren't quite brave enough to cover your walls with it, thankfully Mini Moderns have reproduced the same design on the Pet Sounds tea towel. 

It's the same folky, weird wonderfulness, just on a much smaller scale, meaning you can now dry your designs, inspired by the apparent musical talents of the animal kingdom. 

And, of course, it's much cheaper too. This tea towel costs only £8.

V&A 1950s Portofino tea towel

Portofino

This Portofino design tea towel is a charming highlight of the new Autumn collection at the V&A shop. 

The design, featuring scenes of pleasure and leisure, dates to the 1950s when it was known as Bistro, a wallpaper produced by The Wall Paper Manufacturers. Held in the vast collection of the V&A, it's been plucked from the archives and given a new purpose and adapted for use on oven gloves and an apron, as well as the tea towel pictured. Perfect for any wannabe 50s-style housewives. 

Not on sale yet, you can pre-order this tea towel for delivery next month. It costs £6.

We've featured her tray and dish cloth, now you can complete your kitchen set with this Maria Holmer-Dahlgren London tea towel. 

Like the other designs, it features her distinctive Pop-like depictions of the capital showing everything from Eros to Tower Bridge to the Gherkin to some quirky illustrations of the British weather. There'll always be a new detail to spot as you're drying up your dishes.
