The Smiths limited edition Complete Collector’s Boxset on Rhino

Smiths3

Morrissey continues to get the headlines (for better or worse) some 30 years or so after the group formed, but very soon, you'll be able to re-discover just why he came to prominence in the first place – by grabbing The Smiths Complete Collector's Boxset on Rhino.

It's impressive. Even if you have all the original albums in your collection, you'll be tempted by this. As long as you are a Smiths fan, that is. The collection has been 'reworked' by Johnny Marr and Rhino UK, with the set including all four of the band's studio albums (The Smiths, Meat Is Murder, The Queen Is Dead and Strangeways, Here We Come) plus live album Rank and compilations Hatful Of Hollow, The World Won’t Listen and Louder Than Bombs. Each has been taken back to original tape sources and remastered by Johnny Marr at Metropolis Studios in London.

It has a turntable that plays 33, 45 and 78rpm records, an AM/FM radio, a CD player and a USB port so you can plug in your new-fangled technology too. It is beautifully presented, housed in a walnut finished wooden case.

Like pretty much all of their stock, Past Times are selling it at a reduced price of £128 (previously £160).

eBay watch: 1960s Dansette Viva record player in mint condition

Dansette

Yes, there are plenty of cheaper Dansette record players on eBay, but none in quite the condition of this 1960s Dansette Viva record player.

It's described as being in 'perfect working order' and 'stunning condition'. Indeed, you might well think it was a new model. That's because the turntable, motor and inner workings have been serviced, any worn parts have been replaced, it has a new plug, new stylus and the casing has even been re-upholstered. It's almost perfect, but still has that valve amp for a rich, vintage sound.

Check out the other photos on the listing to see how impressive this is. £89.99 is the current (and opening) price. If you got it for anywhere near that, it would be an absolute bargain.

eBay watch: 1960s Phono Boy 7-inch portable record player by Dario and Mario Bellini

Phono

Also known as the Minerva after the company that made them, the Phono Boy 7-inch portable record player by Dario and Mario Bellini actually made its name when Grundig started selling them. But this is one of the original Italian models.

A very hip vintage item from 1968 and a useful one too. Slip in a 45 and you get to play singles, which is useful at record fairs, charity shops, car boots and the like.

According to the seller, it is n 'excellent vintage' condition, with one or two very small marks. Battery-powered, so no worries about changing the electrics. £30.53 is the price right now.
