eBay watch: Reissued Vitra Ball Clock by George Nelson

Nelson

We featured one of these way back in 2007, but it was a new one, selling for more than the amount being asked right now on eBay for this Vitra Ball Clock by George Nelson.

It's a reissue of a George Nelson classic, originally dating back to 1948 and reissued for the modern era by Vitra. It's a mix of maple and brushed metal, with a high-grade quartz clock, all powered by a single battery and sized around 33cm (diameter).

Some interest already, but with just over three days to go, the price stands at just £1.30. One to keep an eye on for sure.

Vitra’s George Nelson Natural Sunburst Clock now available in oak

Sunburst

It's a midcentury classic – and now the George Nelson Natural Sunburst Clock has been reissued by Vitra in oak.

It's a shape that screams the midcentury era, this particular example being produced as far back as 1949, but more commonly associated with the 1950s. This reissue is true to the original, with those shooting arms and white contrast face. Only this time, those arms are in oak to keep things lighter.

Sized around 470mm, you can pick one up for £208.

Vitra DSR plastic upholstered chair by Charles and Ray Eames

Dsr

Yesterday we featured the updated DAR Chair and today we have another classic with a twist – the Vitra DSR plastic upholstered chair by Charles and Ray Eames.

Yes, similar to the DAR, this is another midcentury gem from 1950, originally made from fibreglass but now made of polypropylene for ecological reasons. Aside from that, it's much the same with 'Eiffel Tower' style leg base and comfortable/functional shell, except it now has upholstery.

Take your pick from numerous Hopsak finishes in 'mid century modern colours', all available to order now and all selling for £424.

Vitra Eames DAR plastic upholstered chair

Dar

The original dates back to 1950, but this is a new take on a classic – the Vitra Eames DAR plastic upholstered chair.

It's still essentially the same Charles and Ray Eames classic, complete with chrome 'Eiffel Tower' leg base and of course, a polypropylene shell (replacing the original fibreglass for ecological reasons). It was the first industrially manufactured plastic chair and is still one of the best.

But in 2010, to add versatility, Vitra has introduced an upholstered version, throwing in a choice of inner Hopsak lining for comfort, which gives it an added use as a stylish lounge chair. Many colours available for the finish, with prices around the £474.30 mark.

Vitra Flock of Butterflies clock by George Nelson

Butterflies

The last of the three new George Nelson clock reissues is also the biggest, both in size and in price – the Vitra Flock of Butterflies clock.

Unlike the other two clocks, this is a 1950s design (1955), a metallic geometric frame with a lacquered wood centre, the whole thing a rather large 61cm diameter.

Just over £417 secures you one.

Vitra Polygon clock by George Nelson reissued

Nelson2

We featured one of these yesterday, but here's a second reissued George Nelson wall clock from the 1960s – the Vitra Polygon clock.

1961 is the year of original creation, with the Polygon offering a quirky shape with lots of angles and sharp edges, not a million miles from yesterday's Wheel, but this time made entirely from walnut, except the quartz movement of course.

Back on the market now, you can pick one up for £305.
