VW Camper Van Tent – an exact replica of a 1960s van

Camper

If you can't afford the real thing for the summer, this VW Camper Van Tent might prove an able and equally cool substitute.

It's actually officially licensed from Volkswagen, a four-person tent and indeed, a 1:1 replica of a 1965 VW Camper Van. For your money, you get the design, all that space (you can even stand up in it), with two zip-separated double-sized rooms within and top-end waterproofing. It even has doors that open just like the original van.

Everything is included – tent, fly, poles, ropes / pegs and set-up instructions – and there's a choice of three colours (yellow, red and blue). £299 is the price and you can pre-order at Firebox right now. More images over the page.

2012 Volkswagen Beetle gets an official launch

Beetle1

Apparently the 'new' Volkswagen Beetle has been around since 1998, so VW thought it was time to go back to drawing board. The result is the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle, which is officially launched today.

If you want to just see the pretty pictures, check out over the page for those. But if you want detail, read on. Launching at car shows in Shanghai, Berlin and New York, it's likely to appear at dealers from late 2011, offered in various guises – a 170 horsepower 2.5-litre version, a turbo-charged 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI engine or the latest TDI turbo diesel unit. This is no Fiat 500 competitor, that's for sure.

Images of all-new Volkswagen Beetle appear online

Vw1

It was the first of the classic cars to get a modern makeover, but with both the Mini and Fiat 500 overtaking it of late, 2011 is perhaps a good time for an all-new Volkswagen Beetle to launch.

According to Car magazine, which has a clutch of spy shots (you can see more over the page), the all-new Beetle will be unveiled around April/May, with the images shown being the latest test model. It might still change a little before it hits the showroom (with regard to the wheel arches in particular, which are still based on the current model), but this is almost the finished item.

eBay watch: 1967 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia

Karmann

I know we have featured one of these in the past, but I couldn't resist highlighting this superb example of a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia currently on eBay.

It dates from 1967, but according to the seller, the car has been 'completely taken apart, sand blasted then rebuilt', with new brakes, wheels, tyres, interior and paint job, while the engine has been taken apart, rebuilt and re-chromed professionally. In addition, the engine has been tunes and the gearbox reconditioned. It's certainly an impressive restoration.

Downside? Well, left hand drive if you're not used to it and possibly the price. Right now it's at £1, but with a reserve, that means nothing. You can take a chance that the reserve is fairly low or you can simply splash out on the 'buy it now' priced of £8,500 if you happen to be feeling flush.

eBay watch: 1972 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia

Karmann

It's a classic shape – and if you like the colours yellow and black, this Volkswagen Karmann Ghia might be for you.

Dating back to 1972, it's a right hand drive model, MOT'd until June 2011, with leather upholstery, original carpet and door panels having been 'renewed'. That colour, by the way is original, albeit resprayed back to its original colour. The 1600cc engine is said to work fine too.

Right now it's at £2,500. Not perfect for the current weather, but come the spring, you might just be glad you invested in it.

Dub-Box – retro camper van caravan with a high end finish

Dub

Probably best suited for added capacity for a VW Camper Van, the Dub-Box is also versatile enough to offer vintage-style caravanning for any car. Indeed, it offers the Camper Van vibe without the hassle of maintaining an old one.

Mixing reproduction retro parts with cutting edge trailer technology, the Dub-Box has a glass fibre body shell and what's described as a 'handcrafted' finish using your choice of colours and fabrics, as well as a selection of flooring, blinds, upholstery, cupboards and worktops.
