70s homemade fashion label Clothkits returns

Clothkits
Everyone seems to be getting into crafting these days, so it’s a good time for 70s stitch-at-home clothing label Clothkits to return.

Originally started by British textile designer Anne Kennedy in 1969, it offered everything you would need to make your own fashions – right down to the buttons and thread. The idea being to create your own individual fashion pieces, but at a fraction of the price. It continued until 1991, but has now been re-launched by Kay Mawer, offering cool designs with more than a slight retro twist.

The principle is the same, with children’s wear and women’s wear available to order as a complete package, with a child’s dress starting at £15 and a women’s skirt from £35. Or you could start simple and go for the Clothkitty doll (pictured), based on an original vintage pattern, with a choice of black or ginger hair and with her own clothing range available to order and make.

Taito’s 30th anniversary Space Invaders Keychain Set

Space_keychain

Original Space Invaders developer Taito is selling a rather cool little 30th anniversary add-on – this Space Invaders Keychain Set.

Three keychains in the set, with the miniature aliens sat in a clear acrylic casing, each one with own anniversary tag, should you wish to save them as collectables.

These are a Japan-only release, but as ever, plenty of shops importing these, including NCSX in the US – which is selling the set for a very cheap $8.50 (around £4.50).

Jellio Squirt Gun Tables

Candytable_lg3Jellio’s ethos is combining childhood fun with interior design. This results in some weird and wonderful pieces of furniture that incorporates toys you’ll remember from the past.

The Candy Table is one example of their work. It is called Candy because that is what they think the effect looks like but the table top is actually filled with squirt guns. The table is made from clear acrylic with the top filled with plastic guns. It is available in various colours.

It costs $350 (approximately £170), although it isn’t clear from their website whether they ship outside of the USA.  Visit the Jelio website for further information.

Battleship Napkins

BattleshipsBarnaby Barford & Andre Klauser have produced a small collection of products inspired by simple childhood games. You’ve probably already seen the Solitaire Olive Dish which lots of shops seem to be selling, but I’ve only just discovered their Battleship Napkins.

The game Battleship involves trying to locate and sink your opponent’s battleship using grid references, but if you’ve forgotten how to play it, these napkins have the rules printed on one side.

They are available from Thorsten Van Elten for £9.50 for a pack of 100, which should give you plenty of practice.

Katkiller’s pop culture dolls

Katkiller

Josmar Madureira (a.k.a Katkiller) is an artist and designer based in Brazil – as well as being the person responsible for these superb Katkiller pop culture dolls.

Take your pick from…well, just about everyone from Amy Winehouse, Joey Ramone and David Bowie through to the Star Wars characters, Twiggy and Andy Warhol. All are approximately 21 inches tall and weigh around 195 grams. They’re made of cloth (raw cotton and polyester), stuffed with synthetic anti-allergic fibre, then painted with silkscreen ink.

Check out the full range via the link below. We don’t know the details of price and ordering as yet – currently chasing up the designer and will update as soon as I know more.
