Dream Authentics Tabletop Arcade Machine – with 150 classic games

Dreamauthentics
Ever thought of reliving your childhood with a vintage arcade machine? Well, if you have – but can’t decide which one you want – maybe the Dream Authentics Tabletop Arcade Machine could solve the problem.

This isn’t just any old arcade machine, it’s packed with 150 classic games from the Atari, Midway and Namco archive, including the likes of Pac Man, Space Invaders, Asteroids, Battlezone, Pong, Missile Command, Breakout, Galaga, Galaxian, Smash TV and…well, just about any other vintage arcade game that comes to mind (see the website for full list).

Also on-board is an adjustable joystick, 11 large buttons and a 3-inch trackball, plus an integrated HP Slimline PC to power everything. You can even use it as a jukebox too (via the integrated stereo speakers and sub-woofer). Certainly not cheap at $2,495.95 (around £1,250), but a great way to fill those long winter nights.

Subbuteo Cufflinks – replicas of 1970s players

Subbuteo_cufflinks
I’m loathe to promote novelty cufflinks, but I can’t help but love these Subbuteo Cufflinks.

Made from nickel, the cufflinks are officially licensed and exact replicas of the 1970s-style players (which are now worth quite a bit of cash – as I found out when I recently sold my collection). And if that’s not enough, they even come in a smart presentation box embossed with the Subbuteo logo, along with an instruction leaflet, just in case you’ve never encountered a cufflink before.

Available now, they retail for £19.95 per pair.

Sarah Young Fabric Kits

62510_marmaduke Artist Sarah Young’s work includes prints, paintings and a lovely collection of one-off dolls made from vintage materials. The dolls are absolutely charming, dressed in clothes from different eras, but sadly rather expensive at around £400 each. To create something more affordable and that links the dolls with her usual work, Sarah has created two Fabric Kits.

The kits consist of a textile sheet with an image of either a lady (Bertha) or a cat (Marmaduke). Both designs feature floral patterns that are reminiscent of mid-century Scandinavian fabric designs. The sheet also includes instructions for making them into dolls or if stuffed with something heavier, doorstops. Alternatively (if you aren’t one for crafts) the sheets can be left whole and used as teatowels, although that would seem rather a waste.

They cost £20 each and can be bought from Sarah Young’s website.

Nintendo Gameboy bricks for your patio or drive

Gameboy_bricks
Fancy giving your patio a unique look? You could pave it with Nintendo Gameboy bricks.

Yes, these are shaped like old ‘brick’ Nintendo Gameboys, the work of an obsessive Dutch Nintendo fan who wanted to pave his drive with Gameboys. And once he’d mastered that, he decided to sell them on to anyone else who fancied a quirky drive/patio.

The one downside of it is the price. A brick – heavy that is it – doesn’t come cheap via mail order. Which means an asking price of just over 31 Euros per brick. Multiply that for a drive and you’re talking serious cash – so maybe just buy a few for a feature area.

Lego offers 50s-style building with the 50th anniversary Town Plan set

Lego_50s

Lego
is 50 years old today – and the company certainly isn’t going to let it pass without some new product – which includes the 50th anniversary Town Plan set.

It’s a special edition update of a classic playset, themed around 1950s America. So expect a 1950s-style gas/petrol station with pumps, car wash and garage, a town hall with a newly-married couple, a cinema with ticket booth, seats and posters, two vintage cars, eight minifigures and of course, lots of bricks.

In fact, as a bonus, there’s three gold bricks to celebrate the anniversary, along with a letter from company owner Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, who actually appeared on the original Town Plan box as a child.

Yours for £89.99.
