Retro retreat: 1960s-inspired Hotel Sax vintage design hotel in Prague

Prague_hotel1

It might look like a fairly classic (and unassuming) update of a 14th century building from the outside, but once inside, you can lose yourself in the space age world of the 1960s-inspired Hotel Sax vintage design hotel in Prague.

Not just the lobby, every room in the hotel has an original appearance that uses predominantly 60s design, with a bit of 50s and 70s also thrown in for good measure. Or if you really want to go upmarket, check into the design suite, which offers both a bedroom and living room overlooking the old town, plenty of space for up to four people and of course, as much vintage design as your eyes can take in.

Graham and Green Orient Express Storage Trunk

Orient Express Storage Trunk

One of the advantages of the modern world is it is much quicker to move around. However, with this gain something of the allure of bygone days of travel has been lost. Graham and Green have captured this glamour perfectly with their aptly named Orient Express Storage Trunk.

The four drawers are made from faux leather and it stands at just over 128cm high. To make it the perfect travelling companion there is a mirror set into your lids and casters so it can be wheeled round (even if it's just around your bedroom!). For a complete look, there's a wardrobe in same range available. The trunk costs £855, whilst the wardrobe retails for £995.

Art deco-styled Midland Hotel in Morecambe – now under new management

Midland_1
We’re big fans of the art deco-styled Midland Hotel in Morecambe, but as our review said, we didn’t think the service (the restaurant in particular) was any match for the stylish surroundings. That could be about to change.

Owners Urban Splash has partnered up with high-end hotel group English Lakes Hotels, maintaining its ownership, but giving over the management and marketing of the hotel to English Lakes. That hopefully means someone answering emails, a restaurant on a par with the surroundings and a hitch-free online booking service. Essentially, dealing with all the things that have let it down so far in our eyes (we’re presuming they can’t do anything about Morecambe itself).

Saying that, the hotel is still worth a visit, especially if you love art deco architecture, retro-styled interiors and bracing seafront walks. You can check out our full review here or visit the Midland website below.
