Pan Am limited edition 1950s Hawaiian vanity cases

Panam_hawaii

Discoo has bagged a UK exclusive on the 80th anniversary Pan Am collection of bags, including some very limited edition pieces – like the Pan Am 1950s Hawaiian vanity cases.

These are exact replicas of the original cases given to Pan Am’s first class passengers in the 1950s, featuring artwork by US artist Norman Rockwell. As you can see, they are made from a cream leather with bold red and orange interior, with some super-cool detailing, not least those Pan Am fasteners.

Quantities are so limited, Discoo is only offering these as pre-order. So if you want one, get your name down via the website. They retail for £125.

RoutemasterchairRetrouvius is an architectural salvage and design business in Kensal Green in north west London. As well as undertaking design projects, they also sell reclaimed and salvaged furniture and amongst their current stock, we’ve spotted these Routemaster Bus Seats.

De-commissioned in 2005, the Routemaster was an iconic image of London that is much missed. Luckily for fans of the “hop-on hop-off” bus, Retrouvius have salvaged a whole bus full of seats so you can have a little reminder of the Routemaster in your own home.

They cost £50 + VAT per seat. Visit the Retrouvius website to see more images and to contact them to purchase.

DC-9 Motobar – vintage aeroplane drinks trolley with added sound system

Dc9motobar

We’re all for recycling – and so is MotoArt. The company strips down old aircraft, giving new life to items otherwise destined for the scrapyard. Like this DC-9 Motobar.

Originally this would have been working the passenger aisles in the 1960s, offering drinks and cocktails to calm a few nerves. Today it’s still a metal-panelled bar with cigarette compartment, but with a few new additions, notably an AM/FM radio and CD/cassette player, plus side-mounted 3-way speakers. Which means you can take the party with you.

There’s also a slightly more slimline Lockheed L1011 trolley available, both available with custom panelling and electronics if you prefer and with that in mind, both are price on application.

Karhu Originals Flight Bag

Karhu_flight
Over a year ago, we spotted what we thought was the coolest laptop bag around, but we couldn’t find anywhere to buy it. Well, good things come to all who wait and you can now buy the Karhu Originals Flight Bag.

It was actually made as a sports bag for the 1971 European Athletic Championships in Helsinki, but has since been made into a business bag or laptop case, with two compartments, along with padding for your PC and an adjustable shoulder strap. But the look is exactly the same, complete with the golden skiing bear logo from 1916.

Sized at 38cm x 30 cm x 15 cm and made from vintage helion, you can pick one up online in green and gold for 129 Euros, which is around £90.

Adria Action retro-styled caravan

Action

For most people, the caravan is just about the complete opposite of cool. But things are changing – you can easily hire an Airstream caravan up and down the country and now you can buy this rather stylish Adria Action caravan.

The Adria Actio is similar to those small and pokey caravans that used to be regularly dragged along our major roads (and now reside rusting in overgrown gardens). For examples, check out Carry On Camping. But the Actio is miles away from that, packing your modern conveniences into a small and lightweight space that can be pulled by just about any car.

And once inside, you have lighting a boiler, heating, TV aerial, a kitchen with hob, sink and fridge,a bathroom with shower and toilet and a choice of one or two bedroom areas. Prices start at around £8,500.
