Space Invaders LED watch

Invaders_watch

Not the easiest thing to find, but if you do pick up this Space Invaders LED watch, you'll certainly turn a few heads.

A limited edition of just 500, the watch shows the time as a red dot-matrix display, with a press of a button replacing the digits for the words 'space invaders', followed by some game-like invaders animation and the words 'game over'. All wrapped up in a 70s-style casing with the game's logo on the front and back.

Downside? Well, one big one – you can't actually play the game on the watch.  Sold in a custom box, you can pick them up from Japanese online retailers (like the one below) for the equivalent of £143.

Lip 1970s Big Fridge watch

Lip_bigfrdige

A 1970s design updated for 2009 – the Lip 1970s Big Fridge watch.

The original watch was the Fridge, designed by Roger Tallon in 1975 for Lip, with the strap sandwiched between the front and back of the case, while a minimalist face and bold chunky hands are guaranteed to catch the eye.

As you might have guessed, the Big Fridge offers super-sized time keeping, boosting the face to 50mm x 38mm for added impact. You can pick one up in various colour schemes for $395 from Watchismo – or if you want the smaller original, you can pick one of those up for $355.

Casio Retro Dial and Digital Watch

Casio_watch

Link bracelet strap watches often seem like they’ve been around as long as most of us, but usually they’re confined to the wrists of older gents. Casio are jumping on the retro bandwagon with a relaunch of the style for men and women with this Retro Dial and Digital version.

Combining both an analogue dial and a digital readout, the design still stays sleek and traditional. With a gold look finish over brushed steel, this is sturdy without costing an absolutely fortune too.

It’s available online from ASOS for just £28.39, with free warranty.

Mondaine Evo classic large-faced watch

Mondaine_evo

Not exactly super sized, but the Mondaine Evo watch does offer more of that classic Mondaine watch face.

Regular readers will recognise it instantly as the face of the classic 1940s railway clock, the work of then-employee Hans Hilfiker and still in use today.

The Evo keeps things plain and simple, with an increase in face size (42mm diameter), a quartz movement, stainless steel case and a leather strap. Yours for around £112.
