Swatch introduces three retro-styled watch designs – 60s Style, Orangeade Drive and Urban Scene

Swatch_new

You could argue that anything by Swatch is retro – identifiable as it is with the 1980s. But now it has gone one step further, introducing specific designs with a retro feel.

The top image is 60s Style, named due to its psychedelic 60s looks, with the middle image titled Orangeade Drive – a bold orange, black and white design with a feel of the 1970s. Finally, there is the Urban Scene watch, using a similar colour scheme, but slipping a record deck into the face’s styling.

As you would expect, all have the Swiss inner workings and affordable price tags. Urban Scene retails for £30, while 60s Style and Orangeade Drive sell for £35.

ABS Icon Wrist Watch now available to order worldwide

Icon_watch

Remember the ABS Icon Wrist Watch we featured a few months back? Well, it’s now available buy worldwide, courtesy of the MoMA website.

Originally sold in the Korean market, the Icon is designed in the blocky style of vintage 8-bit graphics. Indeed, it could be the watch Mario would have worn in the early Nintendo games. It consists of a stainless steel body with a polyurethane band and that’s about all – this watch is all about minimalism.

And there’s good news about the price too. It sold in Korea for the equivalent of £42, so you might expect the price to have jumped a bit for resale. It hasn’t – in fact it’s even gone down a bit to $75, which is around £38.

Ole Mathiesen Index watch

Mathieson
Sometimes plain and simple is so much better than all the whistles and bells – as is the case with the Ole Mathiesen Index watch.

Originally introduced in 1962, this new variation has a large silver-plated dial with simple bold graphics and a date display, along with a Swiss quartz ETA movement, stainless-steel case, sapphire crystal and a calfskin leather band.

Sold gift boxed, which is just as well with a price of $800 (around £400).

Casio retro Data Bank and Digital watches

Casio_retro

I’m always amazed that cutting-edge tech company like Casio is still making throwback 80s watches, but there’s obviously a market for the Casio retro Data Bank and Digital watches.

The more expensive of the two is the Data Bank, with its brushed steel finish, calculator keypad, dual time and alarm functions. The Casio Digital is more basic, but still offers an alarm and data functions.

Both are available online, with the Data Bank retailing for £40 and the Digital selling for £20.

Andy Warhol pop art watches

Warhol_watches

Not the work of Andy Warhol, but the Andy Warhol pop art watches by Kaori Trashima and Maggie Andreani are inspired by the man and indeed ‘signed’ by him.

The inspiration is the colour – bold pop art colour combinations, with a choice of orange with pink or blue with red. And there’s that signature too – if you look closely at the face, you’ll see it there in slightly raised text.

Sold with both case and battery at the MoMA site, each one retails for $95 (around £48).

Tokidoki Vinyl Moving LP watch

Tokini_turntable
Not the first turntable watch to adorn these pages, but the Tokidoki Vinyl Moving LP watch is probably the most fun.

This Japanese timepiece features a miniature record deck with ‘angry face’ LP on the platter. And it’s not just for show – the record moves, acting like a second hand. The hours and minutes are shown in the small box on the left.

The watch is also water-resistant, with metallic case and eight-hole leather strap. Available online, you can pick one up for $168 (around £84).
