Steel Cake Oversized Military watch

Steel_military

I’m liking the vintage looks of the Steel Cake Oversized Military watch range.

Very much a watch of the past in looks, particularly those vintage-style numbers and very simple design. The face and quartz movement is housed in a matte stainless steel casing, which all looks very stylish – but what’s going on with that canvas strap? It co-ordinates, but I’d replace it almost immediately.

Theres a choice of colours available now (including the ones above), retailing for a reasonable $125 (just over £60).

Matrix M6001 retro LCD watch

Matrix_watch

I love a quirky watch – and the Matrix M6001 certainly fits that criteria.

It’s an LCD watch in a shiny steel casing and with a choice of coloured strap. But the main selling point is that display, which reminds me of an old car speedometer – but with the pointer replaced by small black blocks that indicate the time.

Sadly, this only seems to be available in Korea, although you can be it online from online Korean retailer Funshop for the equivalent of £37.

If your Korean is up to it, you can buy this online from Funshop for the equivalent of £42.

Black Dice Ambition square face watch

Blackdice
No, this isn’t something found in an uncle’s old drawer, it’s actually a new watch – the Black Dice Ambition square face watch.

But you be forgiven for thinking it was a vintage timepiece from the early 70s – that leather and faux gold certainly gives it that period feel, as does the wide strap, square face, vintage hands and retro-styled logo.

So if you’re after a 70s-style watch, but at the same time want something with a guarantee, this could be for you. It retails for £69.

Seiko space age Discus watch

Seiko_discus

Straight out of Japan, but not into the UK as yet is this super cool Seiko space age Discus watch.

It;s a modern take on an old idea, using three numbered discs that rotate and work together to offer up the time (hours, minutes and seconds) in a circular display area. The case is available in two designs – one with a stainless body and white face, another with a black metal body and a smoked glass face.

But not yet available outside of Japan. eBay should be your salvation though, but yu’ll have to pay around £450.

While the Discus is not officially for sale in North America, I was able to find a couple over on eBay, priced at about $890 each.

Surreal Salvador Dali watch

Dali
If you’re going to do a Salvador Dali watch, it has to be suitable surreal – and this one from the Unemployed Philosophers Guild certainly fits the bill.

The man himself adorns the face, with his mad moustache replacing the hour and minute hand and an ant moving around the face to cover the seconds.

There’s also a quartz movement and a one year warranty thrown in, all for a bargain $34.95, which is around £18.
