Steel Cake 70s-style Tank watch

Tank_watch
Steel Cake
is a new watch company out of New York, the brain child of designer Matthew Burnett and co-founder James Nelson. And their initial range of watches includes this rather smart 70s-style Tank watch.

I’m guessing ‘Tank’ because of the amount of armour on display here, with the watch face squeezed into a very chunky stainless steel bracelet and brushed steel surround. The watch has a quartz movement, is water-resistant to 100m and has a smart traditional face.

Available online, you can pick one up for $215 (around £110).

Nixon Tetris and Pong Forever watch

Tetris_watch
Back in the 80s, no kids watch was complete without a game to help kill the time in double geography. And now the gaming watch has returned with Tetris and Pong Forever from Nixon.

It’s still a prototype right now, courtesy of Lysandre Follet, but a working one that could well enter production very soon. As the name suggests, it plays two classic games – Tetris and Pong – with the time always available at the top and a control for playing games at the bottom. You might struggle with a two-player game though.

As soon as we hear more about an official release, we’ll let you now.

Nixon Banks 70s-style watch

Nixon_banks
Nixon is a regular on these pages for its retro-styled watches, with the Nixon Banks keeping up that tradition.

Available in different colour combinations, but this gold and black combo is the one for 70s-style cool. Internally, it features a Japanese quartz movement that powers a dual time display and sub dial. There’s also a hardened mineral crystal face, stainless steel band, titanium carbide coating and water resistance up to 100m.

Which should mean a watch that stands the test of time. Just as well as it isn’t cheap – retailing for £350.

80s-style talking Japanese watches

Talking_japanese
Bold colours and a basic digital read-out, these talking Japanese watches look straight out of the 1980s.

But they’re not – the watches are new out of Japan, but available worldwide from Fred Flare. All the colours pictured are available, each one telling you the time as well as showing it.

But there’s a downside – you’ll have to know Japanese to understand the talking bit. But if you do or you want to learn the language, this is ideal. Ridiculously cheap too at $20, which is around £10.
