Fashion of the 20th Century Diary

942509_m

The Fashions of the 20th Century Diary is one of Taschen’s diary offerings for next year. The cover shows a stylish lady dressed in polka dots, against a dotty background, presumably taken at some point during the 1960s.

Inside the A5 spiral bound book, the week to view diary is interspersed with other images from fashion photography and advertising from the previous century. Some of the images stray into the realm of kitsch, but most are from earlier periods, so we are spared images of 90s grunge style.

The diary is available to buy from Paper Nation for £9.99

Psychedelic Print Dress by Culture

Culture print dress

While most of the sixties influenced pieces on the high street at the moment take their inspiration from mod looks, dig deep enough and you'll find some gems from many other of the era's fashion scenes. This Print Dress by Culture is firmly rooted in a psychedelic look, but at a fraction of the price of the vintage equivalents.

The structure is simple and classic, with a high rounded neck, three quarter length sleeves and a mid thigh hem. Keeping a sixties edge, the fit avoids being too tight but has femininity added with a nipped in waist. The Eastern influenced print combines well with a bold colour scheme to give that unmistakably psych feeling.

It's available online from Dorothy Perkins as part of their range of concession brands, retailing at £25.

Unisex Viva Betty Davis T-Shirt from American Apparel

Betty davis tee

Band t-shirts will always be a staple for musos and teenagers determined to pledge allegiance to their chosen musical cult. Unfortunately, most of them veer into the world of mundane design. This Viva Betty Davis T-Shirt by American Apparel avoids boredom and cliché, and throws in extra musical incentive too.

The top is a classic t-shirt shape, making it truly unisex, with the funky Ms Davis on both the front and back. The design avoids the tour t-shirt look with some witty text and well chosen snaps, giving it the edge on other band tees. To top all that, the shirt comes with a free compilation download of rare recordings by various artists, courtesy of Anthology Archives. Check out the tracklisting on the link below.

Cheetah Flight Bag by Jasper Conran at Tripp

Cheetah flight

Luxury luggage often seems the sole property of the impossibly rich, but just because an item is functional doesn't mean you can't make it look stylish on any budget. This Cheetah Flight Bag is a perfect example, and it has some sassy fifties chic thrown in too.

The bag is from Jasper Conran's designs for Tripp, and sells itself on its classic but fiesty design. With a structured flight bag shape that's timeless, the black and white cheetah print conjures a pinup feel. The simple curved lines of the bag let the print shine, ensuring this isn't littered with design points that will make it dated.
