An unusual place to find it, but this Sir Peter Blake Red Nose Day 2019 print is actually available at TK Maxx. Just as long as you are quick.
Aimed at both kids and big kids, this is a case of two pop art icons colliding. The first, of course, is national treasure Sir Peter Blake and the second being that timeless cartoon character Mickey Mouse. I’m not sure if this is the first time Peter Blake has worked with a Disney character, but it does seem like a marriage made in comic book heaven.
Mickey dominates the print of course, but the artwork wouldn’t work without some of Blake’s trademark icons in the background. This is very much a Sir Peter Blake piece of art.
The two have come together for charity, that charity being Comic Relief, which will use the bulk of the proceeds to help vulnerable children and young people both in the UK and some of the world’s poorest communities. So you are brightening up the walls of your house whilst doing a lot of good too.
There are 250 prints being made available, each one signed by the artist and likely to become collectors’ pieces pretty much as soon as they sell out – and that’s likely to be very, very soon.
The finished work is a silkscreen print on Somerset Tub White 410gsm and mounted onto dye board, sized at 62 x 60cm. Note that it is unframed, despite the image shown here.
If you want one, the asking price is £999.99, which doesn’t seem to be putting off potential buyers.
