There’s a good choice of guitars out there if you’re after a retro or vintage look – and here’s another option for you – Danelectro.
If the name sounds familiar, that’s because it has a rich pedigree – the company was founded in 1947 and peaked in popularity during the 50s and 60s, with the likes of Link Wray, Syd Barrett, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Tom Verlaine listed amongst its happy customers.
The name faded in the late 60s, but the company re-emerged in the
1990s, essentially selling the same style of guitar that made its name
– including a very stylish six-string bass. The guitars pictured here
are from the reissued Danelectro DE Dane Pro range – available in an
endless range of colours, but very much in the same style as the
original, but with upgraded pickups and finishes.
They retail in the US for $299. That should mean £150 in the UK, but
retailers over here are selling them for roughly twice that amount –
£299.
