Not the most obvious Saarinen design, but the Womb chair from 1948 is still an eye-catching piece of furniture.
A fairly early design, but very much ahead of its time, the Womb chair was made exclusively for Knoll and is still in production by the company. It’s designed to facilitate a relaxed sitting posture, aided by a moulded fibreglass shell that’s covered by a foam cushion. Support comes from steel rods with a polished chrome finish or matte black power coating.
Available in a range of upholstered finishes, prices are around £2,350.
