Alvar Aalto first created the Aalto vase for Iittala at the World Fair in Paris in 1937 and it continues to be popular today. Here the classic design has been re-interpreted as the Aalto Votive.
This blown-glass object maintains the distinctive shape of the vase, but the added the functionality of being a candle holder. The Lighthouse shop are selling the Aalto Votive in various colours. Pictured here is the brown, which costs £17, but it is also available in “Flaming Red” for £29, “Blueberry Blue” or clear for £9.50 or “Sea Blue” for £10. No explanation is offered for these price variations.

Coloured glass is more expensive than clear – Red is THE most expensive colour. I am sure a glass expert would be able to explain in more detail, but as a retailer I know the pain too well of a red season 🙂
