Italian Bruno Munari was an acclaimed artist, designer, educator and philosopher. He also did research in the subjects of game, infancy and creativity, and undoubtedly this fed into his wonderful children’s books.
Whilst his other designs might be harder to find, thankfully his books are readily available. A good starting point for anyone looking to collect his books for their kids (or themselves) would be Bruno Munari’s ABC, an alphabet book he designed in 1960, which is typical of his playful and colourful style.
It is available in hardback from Amazon for £8.99
Munari’s ‘Zoo’ book is also available from the same publisher.
You may also want to check out Paul & Ann Rand’s children’s books ‘Sparkle and Spin’ and ‘Little 1’ also published by Chronicle books.
The ‘GOSH!’ comic shop (opposite The British Museum) has an excellent and wide range of in-print mid-20th century children’s books for sale.
