Ever heard of the T-12 Urbano telephone? Me neither, but one look at the picture and I was sold. It's not just a pretty face either, with Russell Johnson Imports selling completely reconditioned models online.
The phones were originally designed in the US by Standard Electric in the late 50s, the design being sold around the world through to the mid-60s. These particular models are from Argentina, with original state-owned phones undergoing extensive renovation – new microphones, cartridges and cables, along with a new paint job. Apparently it takes four old phones to create one reconditioned model ready to go.
Russell Johnson Imports are initially selling limited numbers in red, orange and blue for $210, with other colours to follow in February. All are compatible with any single land line system, but if you are buying overseas (they sell out of the US), you might want to check that connectivity.
One last thing – when we enquired about the phones, the company was kind enough to offer us (and the site readers) a 10 per cent discount off any order. So if you fancy owning a T-12 Urbano, enter coupon code 'retrotogo' (all lowercase) for the cheaper price.
