Great spot by Andrew (many thanks) on eBay, not least because a pair recently sold for over £1,000 on eBay. I'm talking about these Artemide Pileino table lamps by Gae Aulenti.
The difference? Well, the oriignal pair, which sold for £1,105, was boxed and as 'new', rare for an item long out of circulation. But even allowing for that, this used pair is still a potential bargain. Designed by Gae Aulenti in 1972, the lamp is a space age classic, probably best known for its appearance in the Space 1999 series and still screaming the era. Not, as you might expect, plastic either – that adjustable casing is actually lacquered metal.
Sadly that casing isn't in perfect condition here. While both work, there is obvious wear to the lamps, which is well photographed on the site. So not perfect, but for such rare designs, still worth considering if the price is right – especially for two of them. Right now they're at £5.11.
why do you always mention the amount of the starting bid? It’s totally irrelevant to the final price and it makes you come across as being sensationalist about something when there’s no reason to. just stop mentioning the pennies that an item starts at when it’s listed, it’s totally irrelevant. thanks.
Going by the name, this is likely to be a spam comment, but I’ll answer anyway.
There’s nothing sensationalist about phrases like ‘potential bargain’ and ‘still worth considering if the price is right’. It’s very matter of fact. Not sure what the issue is at all.
