Franklyn M Branley wrote over 150 science books for children, but Rain and Hail from the Let’s-Read-and-Find-Out-Science series is one of his best.
The esteemed astronomer started this book series in 1960 with Rain and Hail dating back to 1963 (although it was reissued in the 1980s). The book explains precipitation and cloud formation in a way that is easy to understand, aided by delightful midcentury illustrations with collages and visible brush strokes. Like Miroslav Sasek's "This is" books, this is a book that should appeal to adults as much as child.
You can find copies of it from various sellers on Amazon, usually priced around £30.
