We have rattled on about the L'Utopie Du Tout Plastique book in the past, which is basically the bible for 1960s and early '70s plastic space age design. One item featured within it is actually on eBay right now – this Schneider SSS Stereo portable record player.
It's a gem of a design and if you love spinning records, a useful piece of design too. Catching the eye with that orange plastic casing, it's another twist on the suitcase record player, with stereo speakers coming away when you want to play your music, attaching back to the vase when not in use. Indeed, when you want to move it, the player all comes together as a small case, with a handle for easy carrying.
The player, tested as working, spins at 33, 45 and 78rpm, with controls for the sound at the side of the actual deck. Sold with the mains cable and described as being in 'very good' condition, with some scratches and nicks on the outer – see the images for how that pans out up close.
The price is a 'buy it now' of £249 or if you want to take a chance, you can also make an offer.
