Interesting one this. A leading interiors magazine is running a campaign to extend the copyright on design in the UK from 25 years. If successful, it would effectively outlaw reproduction pieces from the UK market. Good news for design houses, perhaps not good news for classic design lovers on a budget. But right now, pieces like these CLC Living reproduction classics at Achica are still good to go.
CLC Living (along with other firms) currently produces copies of classic designs, the CLC ones described as ‘high quality reproduction designer furniture pieces’. Cheaper obviously – and right now, considerably cheaper for a limited time at Achica.
The range includes copies of the classic Eames Chair and stool (£549 right now), the Barcelona Chair and stool (£495) and, as pictured above, the Egg Chair, originally designed by Arne Jacobsen and available in reproduction form for £449. All those prices are substantially discounted from the usual CLC Living price for the next day or so.
Whether you want one will probably depend on your bank balance and your view on reproductions. We’re not going to moralise on the issue as we see both sides of the argument. If you want the repros, check out the items on offer. If not, keep saving for an officially licensed piece.
