The Circle Chair is a surprising piece, looking very different from Hans J Wegner’s classic chair designs and originating in the 1980s, rather than an early period that might be suggested by its shape.
The chair went into production in 1986, so it is still very much a retro piece, although I would have guessed at it being a product of the late 60s or early 70s. It comes towards the end of Wegner’s illustrious career, with the designer just being in his seventies when he created this. The chair is made from solid ash, which required special machinery to be developed. It is available now in a choice natural ash or black oiled ash. It is currently on offer at Skandium, although still costs just over £4,000.
