Is a pre-season collection a great idea for those of us bored with winter clothes, but not ready for the full-on Spring/Summer look, or is it just a cunning way to get us to buy more? When the clothes are as good as those in the Orla Kiely Pre-Spring/Summer 2012 Collection, I don’t really mind either way.
The collection is inspired by Shelley Duval as Olive Oyl in Popeye – which is not one of the most obvious sources of inspiration, but makes a change from the Ali McGraw in Love Story influence that is trotted out time and time again. What this translates to is bright colours, long hemlines, tie neck details and sailor tops with some pretty 1940s tea dresses thrown in for good measure. Not cheap by any means with prices starting upwards of £125.
