It's a bit like illuminated wall art. In fact, that's probably what it is. Made of plastic and lacquered metal, the op art imagery lights up, producing an effect something like what you see above. It's not going to help with your reading, but it might create the right 'look' if you have a swinging sixties pad.
It is sized at around 25 x 25cm, and is in 'excellent' condition according to the seller, with just 'small signs of wear from more than 35 years of gentle use'.
