2013 will see the 150th anniversary of the tube, marked by the London Transport Museum with a range of limited edition ceramics, including the Popular Service Cake Stand.
The design is taken from an original London Transport poster created in 1913; a pastiche of the Willow Pattern incorporating an undergraound train and playing on the word "service" (as in both china and train). The different elements of the design are split across the three tiers of the cake stand to replicate the original poster image when it is viewed from above, with the tube train hand gilded in 22k gold.
The cake stand costs £100 from the London Transport Museum shop here and the poster will be part of Poster Art 150 exhibition opening in February 2013. The ceramic range also includes mugs and plates, all made in Stoke on Trent from fine bone china.
