I love clocks. I sometimes think we should have a weekly spot just to celebrate the designs we encounter. But in the meantime, we'll have a random spot, which this week features this 1950s Smiths 8-Day wind-up wall clock.
Just look at it. How great would that look in a midcentury-inspired kitchen? It would look amazing. That red and white design is the era although it could easily pass for a modern retro-inspired design too.
But this is no repro, it is an original, made from moulded ornament plastic (said to be 'very strong'), with matt black hands and the workings on the back. But there's a downside. According to the seller, there is 'no key'. There is a presumption that it works, but without the key, there really isn't any guarantee.
I suspect you can find a key easy enough if you asked around, which should add more value to this thing. As it stands, it is just a stunning piece of 1950s home design, with a price tag of £15.
