Jim Datz's rather splendid illustrations were one of the selling points of Herb Lester's Old New York map so it's pleasing to know that they are available to purchase separately, as this Old New York postcard set.
The map itself – which we covered a few years ago now – was the meeting of several great things. There was the research skills of Herb Lester (whose latest Miami map we featured just last week) and the illustrations of Jim Datz, who'd already given us some great London and Brooklyn prints. His designs really helped capture the romance of the city: from great old cars speeding past high rise buildings to the old-school photographer snapping away at the Statue of Liberty.
Those spot illustrations have been litho-printed onto a set of four postcards so you can appreciate them in their own right. Each is printed in two-colours onto a heavy creamy card. They've even given the cards scalloped edges to help add to the vintage feel.
A great piece of affordable artwork, you can pick up a set for £3 from the Herb Lester website.
