If you'd like a book to look through over Christmas, Lesley Jackson's Modern British Furniture: Design Since 1945 should keep you happily occupied – there are 320 pages of it!
The title is pretty self-explanatory – this is a comprehensive survey of furniture design in the UK since the end of the Second World War, featuring case studies of over 50 designers and makers. And, what's nice is that as well as the recently much more well documented mid-century stuff, the book features pop designers such as William Plunkett, as well as Ernest Race and Robin Day and well-known companies such as Heal's, Habitat and Ercol. The imagery, meanwhile, draws on the collections of the V&A museum so there are plenty of nice pieces to drool over.
The full sales price of the book is £40, but Foyles currently have it for sale for £29.20. Order it here.
