It is a design we have shown the love to in the past. That's the original 1939 design and the updated Ernest Race version from 1963. But now there's a third version out there, with the Penguin Donkey 3 by Shin and Tomoko Azumi for Isokon Plus still staying pretty much faithful to the original.
That's the thing really, It's a design made for a single reason – to hold books and magazines (originally Penguin paperbacks). The new version still does that – and with a look not a million miles from the original. Just with a few tweaks for the modern era.
It's made of birch, holds up to 80 paperback books and works pretty well as an occasional or coffee table too. If you want one, £580 is the price. The older designs are still available too, of course.
