Witty, stylish and now with more than a touch of nostalgia attached, Books! – written by Murray McCain and John Alcorn and originally published in 1962 – has now been reissued. Though technically for kids, it's likely that grown-ups will get the same, if not more, pleasure from it too.
The book was awarded 'book of the year' by the New York Times on its original publication, and it's easy to see why. The title sets out to answer the question 'What is a book?', and Murray McCain gives some fun answers, while John Alcron provides the illustrations.
The inventive typography, coupled with the distinctly sixties illustrations gives the book a look of its own – there's a fair bit of day-glo ink going on.
There are 42 pages to discover, at a size slightly larger than the original format to make it more kid-friendly.
