Both of these lovely things will soon be available to buy at the Southbank Centre Shop. Those being the Galapagos x Mini Moderns midcentury-style Bartolomew and Beck chairs.
It's collaboration between a vintage furniture specialist and hip interior design house, both of whom share a passion for mid-20th century style. I'm guessing you are probably aware of Mini Moderns, it's a brand we have featured many times on the site and a design team we love.
The result is the Beck Armchair, a British piece fro the early '60s, along with the Bartolomew cocktail chair, both of which have been given new life with the Mini Moderns Pavilion print. which features abstract lines and dots inspired by the Festival of Britain of 1951.
We sometimes shudder when he hear the word 'upcycling', but the designs here show that it can be done with a lot of style if carried out by the right people. Also, unlike other upcycled projects, these aren't just 'one-off' pieces. Galapagos has enough seating to cope with retail demand, you'll be please to hear.
Prices? A Bartolomew chair upholstered in Pavilion fabric sells for £750, while the Beck chair sells for £850. Both designs are exclusive to the Southbank Centre Shop.
