This checked cotton dress from La Redoute looks as if it could have come straight out of the wardrobe of Brigitte Bardot in the 1950s.
Although gingham is having a fashionable moment this summer, there's an important reason why this dress looks particularly Bardot-esque. It's part of a collaboration between La Redoute and a contemporary French brand called Brigitte Bardot', which produces fashion inspired by Bardot's style.
Bardot, of course, is well known for her love of check – she even wore a gingham-patterned dress for her wedding to Jacques Charrier in 1959. This dress captures the look of 1950s innocence perfectly and is perfect for summer wear. It is made from pure cotton and has a great, full-skirted 50s-style shape, complimented by the fitted, sleeveless bodice. It fastens with a side zip.
You can order your version of starlet style for £45.
