Lovers of midcentury fashion and to be honest, great imagery should really check out William Helburn: Mid-Century Fashion and Advertising Photography, which is published by Thames & Hudson.
Described as the 'go-to photographer' for many of the top advertising agencies in New York in the 1950s and 1960s, William Helburn crated iconic advertising images in the middle of the 20th century which still have the power to impress and inspire today.
William Helburn shot images for editorials and magazines, as well as cars, cosmetics drinks brands, clothing lines, airlines and many more, often using the top models of the day – from Dovima and Dorian Leigh to Jean Patchett and Barbara Mullen, to Jean Shrimpton and Lauren Hutton.
This book is a chronicle of that work, the real Mad Men if you like, with many images seeing the light of day for the first time in decades. As well as the images, the 224-page hardback book also features a biographical account of Helburn's life and work, with contributions from former colleagues in the industry.
The book is out now, retailing for £39.95.
