We have featured the standard issue before (and a secondhand one on eBay), but for exclusivity you want the limited gold leaf edition of the Eames House Bird by Charles & Ray Eames.
But you will have to pay out big to get one.The design is the same, based on a piece found in the Californian Eames House in California, one that had been present in the house for around 50 years. This folk art piece was reissued by Vitra and is still available today for around £100.
That’s not the case with this new edition. This one uses gold leaf and is hand-finished, with the gold leaf ‘carefully applied’ by a goldsmith, after which the surface is protected with a thin lacquer finish.
Each finished item then an exclusive numbered label, a numbered certificate of authenticity, and arrives in a black and gold gift box. All that extra work costs though, with the finished item coming soon and likely to sell for around £900.
