Just noticed the rather quirky designs of Something or Other, which includes this pinball-inspired Light Cube Bedside Table.
The company is the work of North London duo Jenny Lloyd and Jonathan Parkin, who seek out old and ‘generally unloved and neglected’ objects, turning them into more functional pieces of interior design.
This table is a typical example. It has been produced from a stripped down playfield taken from a ‘retired’ 1979 Game Plan 'Sharpshooter' pinball machine. Added to that is internal illumination, as well as glazed black birch plywood for the sides and 4mm toughened glass for the top.
The end result is something new, but with a past too and definitely a talking point. If you want it, the price is £375. Do check out the other design too, with similar pieces to this also available on enquiry.
On one hand, this is a neat idea. On the other hand, if perfectly good playfields were used to make this, this is sickening.
Hi George,
we just wrote about them (rather than being the makers), so don’t know the full story. But when I saw it, I read between the lines that these were playfields that couldn’t be reused for their original purpose. However, it’s perhaps worth checking with the maker.
