There is an issue with this, but one thing is for sure. This 1950s Robin Day-designed Pye 444 Cruiser transistor radio is a stunning looking thing.
It dates from 1958 and is a wonderful piece of British modernism, complete with a grooved aluminium case, anodised metal perforated speaker grille, grey rubber tuning knobs, a black leather carrying handle and a telescopic aerial.
Condition is described as ‘generally very good’, with some marks / scratches on the case and marks on the grille. Not surprising when you take into account the age. But everything seems to be intact, with the exception of the little knob on the top of the aerial.
So, what’s the issue? That issue is playback. The seller says is takes ‘an old style 9v battery’ for power, but he or she has not tried powering it up. So you will have to presume the worst on that front.
Saying that, surely someone can work on it to get it working and with a price of just £6.49 right now, it might be worth your while doing that.
