Before the iPod and even before the Sony Walkman music was still available in portable form. This 1970s Musicalsound Penny portable record player is one example of a device used for that very purpose.
A very cool thing it is too. It dates from around 1974, with this Italian-made player spinning 45s inside, with output via its built-in speaker. All of that in a stylish space age package and with power via battery (if you are out and about) or mains.
It works as you hope too. Just push in the 45 and it plays automatically, stopping just as the record ends. Press eject and out it pops. Volume and tone controls adjust the sound whilst playing.
According to the seller, this penny in red is in ‘excellent’ condition with no cracks or breaks. All the buttons work and the records eject as they should. The current bid price is £46 and the seller will throw in some reggae and Beatles 45s for the winning bidder.
