It's been out of production for many years but the sister piece to Ernest Race's Donkey Mark 2, the Bottleship Mark 2, has recently been reissued by Isokon Plus.
Like the Donkey bookcase, the Bottleship has a complicated history. It was first designed by Egon Riss for the first incarnation of Isokon. When the company was revived in the 1960s, Isokon's Jack Pritchard asked Ernest Race to revisit the design. It's finally back in 2015.
And what of the design itself? Well, it's a similar size to the Donkey but – as the name might suggest – its hinged lid opens to reveal glasses and bottles. So it's a mini-bar/side table with added side storage options, and surely an essential for any home.
It's been available in two different materials, for slightly different prices.
In birch it will set you back £715, while the cherry option is priced at £765.
