Another book that has missed the cut for Christmas, but you might want to treat yourself in the new year to Gertie's Ultimate Dress Book: A Modern Guide to Sewing Fabulous Vintage Styles by Gretchen Hirsch.
This is the latest in an ongoing series (the last of which was Gertie Sews Vintage Casual: A Modern Guide to Sportswear Styles of the 1940s and 1950s), this one looking at the vintage frock. Actually that should be frocks in the plural.
The book is your guide to making your own, featuring information, patterns and of course, the techniques you will need to make that vintage dress. 23 patterns are included here, which should cover a variety of occasions. If you want more, you should be able to mix and match the patterns once you get comfortable with the techniques required.
A 236-page hardback book from Stewart, Tabori & Chang, it is published in March but available to pre-order now for £17.94.
