We have featured a lot of Dansettes over the months and years, but I don’t think we have featured a Dansette Challenge C101 record player like this one.
It dates from 1963. Not that you would guess that. After refurbishment, this looks straight out of the factory. In fact, as it has been serviced too, it probably works like a new player too.
According to the seller, the Garrard Autoslim player mechanism has been ‘completely cleaned and re-lubricated’ to the manufacturer’s specifications and adjusted as necessary, the wiring has been checked and replaced as necessary and a Mullard EL84 valve provides that all-important vintage sound.
As for the looks, well the player has been relieved if its tired covering and a new one has been applied. That’s why it looks like new.
If all of that appeals, the player is at auction on eBay, with the current price at £43.23.
