It is a limited edition, which is perhaps part of the reason why the 1950s Gianfranco Frattini-designed Albero bookcase comes at such a price.
Of course, the other reason is that this is a very well made piece of furniture and a design classic from the late 1950s.
This is a tree-like bookcase, one that’s freestanding and in the case of this limited edition, made of olive wood. The design is made up of interconnecting elements, with four vertical struts and two rack and pinion poles at the two ends, along with shelves in MDF with an olive essence veneer, able to be positions in the holes in the struts. You can use between 8 and 12 shelves on the bookcase.
If you were wondering, a metal cylinder is attached to the ceiling to hold the bookcase in place.
Each one features the designer’s signature. the Poltrona Frau logo, a limited edition caption and a laser engraved number of between 1 and 55. That’s how many are being produced.
As we said, very cool, but also very expensive. £10,800 gets you one.
